ASRS have recently carried out structural repairs and rebuilding works to an end of terrace block of flats in London

This flank wall was suffering from a significant bulge measuring up to 130+mm!! After testing on the wall, it was also found that there was 50+mm of delamination incorporated into the bulge.

In this case the cause of the movement was down to lack of lateral restraint being provided to the flank wall from the joists, due to the joists running parallel to the masonry wall, which in turn has allowed the masonry to move away laterally from the main structure over a long period of time.
Due to the severity of the bulging on the flank wall, it was deemed that the wall should be partially rebuilt on the outer skin of brickwork, as well as bow ties and wall ties installed to prevent any further movement following the rebuild.
